Byron Nolen is Inkster through and through. Born and raised in one of Metro Detroit’s most resilient communities, Byron didn’t just grow up in Inkster — he grew up for Inkster. As a youth, he channeled that community spirit through local sports and as a proud member of the Inkster chapter of the Top Teens of America. Those early experiences shaped a lifelong commitment to service that never left him.
Byron comes from a family that believes in hard work and showing up. His mother, Opal Nolen, dedicated over 25 years to educating children in Inkster Public Schools. His father, Henry Nolen, gave 36 years to Ford Motor Company. Byron carries that same work ethic into everything he does.
Today, as Mayor of Inkster, Byron remains deeply embedded in the fabric of his community — through his work with the Seeds 2 Feed Foundation, as co-chair of the Inkster Task Force, and President of the Inkster Democratic Club. He doesn’t just talk about change; he shows up for it every day.
That same dedication extends to every corner of Michigan’s 12th Congressional District. From the neighborhoods of Southeast Michigan to the hard working families across this diverse and dynamic region, Byron understands that real representation means showing up for everyone — not just the few.
As an attorney and elected official, Byron has spent his entire career doing one thing: solving people’s problems.
